Ayodhya , one of the seven sacred cities of Hinduism , located on the banks of holy river Saryu in the state of Uttar Pradesh in India  . It is believed that ongoing construction of Ramjanmabhumi temple commemorating the place of Rama’s Birth will result in massive influx of devotees

Hindu pilgrimage is primarily nature focused and mountains, hills ,caves and rivers and their confluence venerated for their  intrinsic attributes and dwellings of gods and goddesses. Pilgrimage is promoted by stories of these places and significance and glories of the place as mentioned in the religious ancient texts.

Ayodhya  on the promontory above the holy river saryu , is no exception . Its water bodies, hills and groves are eulogised in Ayodhya Mahatmya, a place text that has been of critical importance in guiding pilgrims.  Its oldest edition of text was composed between the eleventh and fourteenth centuries in an effort to keep the epic story of Rama Alive .
